Creationists abound!

So my daughter has 10 grade Biology. They're now studying evolution. She has been looking forward to this because it fascinates her.

She asks a fellow student about answers on their study sheet. She notices that the student has answered "false" to all the questions. My daughter asked her why she did this and she replies that as far as she is concerned it's all false. God created everything.

Hokay...so she goes to someone else for help and pretty much gets the same answers. The 3 students in her group start to harass her becuase she believes in "evolution". My daughter went to a Catholic school through 8 grade and even they taught evolution!

So....my daughter talks to the teacher outside of class about being moved away from these kids. The teacher admits she was afraid something like this might happen and that is why she is just going to "gloss over" this section in the book.

thats odd. im reading a book about these so called 'creationists' in a book called 'the tower of babel'.

SO, I always wondered from the creationists how they can explain away the fact that dinosaurs existed.

God created man along with all the animals, but dinosaurs were there LOOOOONNNNGGGG beofre anything that looked liked us existed. Wheredid they fit into the picture.

I usu ally get a blank look with a mumbled "heathen" and they walk off.

there's lots of different kind of creationists.

what they do is put of up shit loads of creationists as canditates on the school board. eventually they'll get in and influence the cirriculum.

scientists dont take them seriously but they keep having to have regular arguments so they dont take over.

The same thing happened to my daughter... except she's more religious than I am and this really upset her.

I explained that understanding how evolution works in nature does not disprove the existance of a creator... only illustrates the mechanics involved in our existance and how his work would progress from the initial introduction. (this calmed her down a bit)

I told her that her and her classmates can believe in God and still accept the fact that evolution does happen.

What really gets me is religious people who try to say that Dinosaurs never existed... that all the fossils are HOAXES.

If god spoke to his disciples and they wrote down his words in the bible... they still only wrote WHAT THEY COULD UNDERSTAND. Until a few hundred years ago, many religious folk still believed that the EARTH was the center of our universe.

You can have faith in a higher power and still accept the facts that are around us.... a God could have kick started our universe, but he's not going to explain to a primitave disciple "Well, your body is made up of molecules... much like what I formed the sun out of..." [img]rolleyes.gif[/img]

It's more like "You were created from the same building blocks as the earth" (hence the formed out of mud stuff)

The students my daughter got into the "debate" insisted that dinosaurs co-existed with Adam & Eve. [img]graemlins/sure.gif[/img]

Later a friend of hers told her she should have asked how could we be descended from Adam & Eve if they had 2 sons?

And they want to ban gay marriages! [img]wink.gif[/img]

I remember scoffing at my wife (when we were dating) as "You don't SERIOUSLY believe in Adam and EVE do you??? It's a STORY... to ILLUSTRATE morals and values... not HISTORICAL FACT."

I learned (after being celibate for a month or so) to let some people have THEIR beliefs, while I have mine. [img]wink.gif[/img]
